Aluminium such as this Artline from Sapa door are strong, slim, thermally efficient and aesthetically pleasing. Fact.

Aluminium such as this Artline from Sapa door are strong, slim, thermally efficient and aesthetically pleasing. Fact.

In today’s information age, there are many websites about home improvements, and double glazing to be found.

When it comes to websites promoting aluminium windows, there is only this one that I am aware of in the UK but amongst the general double glazing and home improvement websites globally these attempt to give the homeowner “facts” about aluminium windows.

I came across a website called Replacement Windows Advisor, a website that states is:

a site dedicated to educating homeowners like you on the latest and greatest in the world of replacement windows.

Here is a website full of inaccurate information about aluminium windows.  Whilst this appears to be an American website, nonetheless it is a website that someone looking for replacement windows can easily come across for information.  It is badly written, fragmented and innacurate.

Let us clarify some facts about aluminium windows the website puts to its readers:

Replacement Windows Advisor:

When considering replacement windows, aluminium windows are often only found on commercial structures, apartments, mobile homes, and low end town homes and condos. The reason for this is that aluminium replacement windows are some of the cheapest types of windows to make.

The Facts:

Commercial Systems are found on commercial structures, residential and commercial systems are found in apartment blocks (depending on the block and the specifications of the system used). Mobile homes have specifically designed aluminium windows for mobile homes.  Low end town homes and condos again are open to discussion as to what has been used.
Aluminium windows are not some of the cheapest windows to make.  This is why aluminium windows are more expensive.  Aluminium is more expensive than plastic as a material, aluminium windows are still assembled by hand and it is incorrect to say they are the cheapest.

Replacement Windows Advisor:

Individuals that own homes that are over fifty years old will typically find aluminium windows on the home if they have not replaced them. The reason for this is because during that time this type of window was considered to be the best available.

The Facts:

The first replacement windows were made of aluminium but in those days they were sold, non thermal sections and as with most products they evolve over time.  Modern aluminium windows cannot be compared to the first aluminium door and window systems.

Replacement Windows Advisor:

The main issue with choosing aluminum windows is the fact that the material is extremely light and bends easily. This means that the windows will bend during the standard opening and closing process or even from moderate weather such as excess snow or wind.

The Facts:

The inherent strength of aluminium windows means strength with the benefit of slim sight lines.  Aluminium does not “bend easily”.  Aluminium windows will never bend during the standard opening and closing process.  The statement made here about the strength of aluminium is staggeringly inaccurate.  Aluminium is used because of its strength.

Later in the article it contradicts itself totally with a link to The Pros and Cons of Aluminium Windows that whilst not totally accurate does inform much better.

Facts about aluminium windows need to be accurate so please do your research and read well written accurate websites.  If you are a homeowner and are considering aluminium windows for your home we can help.
