Aluminium Secondary Double glazing is not the first thought of many when it comes to replacement windows, but it has many advantages over typical new double glazing.

secondary double glazing in a hotel

Secondary glazing may be the ideal solution for many buildings and applications where noise control is important.

Secondary Double Glazing is a slimmer typically single glazed window system that is installed internally in the reveals of windows.  It is particularly useful for those people that simply cannot afford to replace their existing windows.

Householders who live in listed buildings (where the original windows must be retained) seeking improved insulation can benefit from secondary glazing.  Additionally, those that live in areas of high noise such as flight paths, busy town centres or near motorways can also benefit by having secondary double glazing installed.

Secondary double glazing therefore offers additional sound proofing, additional security, controls condensation and helps to retain heat in the home.  You can read more about the general benefits of aluminium secondary double glazing here.

The hotel sector is another area where secondary double glazing can be beneficial

With many hotels in city centre locations occupying older buildings, the simple replacement of existing windows may not be possible.  Here secondary double glazing can provide many benefits for residents.  With many newer hotels located near busy airports, train stations, trunk roads and motorway service stations, comfortable levels of noise for the occupiers of such buildings is important.

If a hotel customer does not have a good experience in the hotel due to noise disturbance business for that hotel can be affected as they won’t use that hotel again.

Senior Systems themselves recently reported that they have seen a rise in the number of secondary systems installed in commercial buildings and this they believe has also been the case due to changes in Building Regulations and  Codes of Practice.

There are cost savings and benefits to fitting Secondary Double Glazing to our homes.

Gatwick Airport recently reported that they would pay for double glazing to homes should they be given permission to build a second runway.  Unless this double glazing is fitted with acoustic glass that can actually help reduce sound insulation and not simply brand new windows with standard sealed units, would there be a greater benefit in actually installing secondary glazing instead?

Secondary double glazing even when installed behind recently installed new windows would offer greater sound insulation than replacement windows.  The gap between the external window and the secondary window unit would improve sound levels much more than a new window could.

Triple glazing would help somewhat and it could be argued that aesthetically, one window is better than two. That said, it would still not give the sound insulation of modern secondary double glazing.
